As of July 1, 1999, the mandatory Civil Liability Insurance Regulations for recreational or sports vessels came into force (RD 607/99). The RD 607 requires the following vessels to have their own insurance, all boats propelled by motor (including jet skis), boats without motor and of length exceeding 6 m, and foreign vessels that meet the above requirements navigating Spanish waters.
